United Methodists are best known for a commitment to the basics of Christianity and by a Christian lifestyle, rather than by agreeing to a particular system of beliefs.
Some of the things United Methodists have in common with other Christians are their conviction that God has mercy, loves all people. We share in the belief in the Holy Trinity (Father, Son and Holy Spirit). We believe in the salvation through Jesus Christ and the celebration of the sacraments.
In these and many other ways, Methodism acknowledges the unity of all Christians in the Body of Christ.
United Methodists share in the four main guidelines for belief that help us understand our faith, Scripture, Tradition, Experience and Reason.
We believe that baptism is the sacrament of initiation that joins us with the church and Christians everywhere. It symbolizes a new life and promise of God’s saving love and forgiveness for our sins. Whether you are an infant or an adult, you can be baptized only once in your life by using water which is a special symbol of baptism. We baptize with water by sprinkling, immersion, or pouring. |
