Josie Long moved to the Philippines in February 2009 with the intention of training Filipina women to become cosmetologists. However, she had a vision beyond providing job training. Her goal was to disciple and encourage the women to make their clients not only outwardly beautiful, but also inwardly through the transforming power of the gospel message.
Josie started J Salon and Spa and now, two full years later, she employs six women who are fully trained as cosmetologists and massage therapists and are having an impact on their community.
Many of The J Salon’s clients are short-term volunteer team members who are staying at the nearby YunJin Lyso Ministry Center to help with area ministries. However, the Salon’s workers have also branched out into the community to serve other women, providing beauty and health-care services and teaching them about God. As a result, many women’s bible studies have been started, helping to transform these ladies into powerful spiritual leaders in the community!
