Be a Special Volunteer
To A Special Needs Child or Adult.....
in Kenya
It is a definite challenge but well worth the efforts if you are a student of Special Education. As a child or adult living in Kenya with special needs it is difficult. A child who deals with autism, downs syndrome, mental and emotional challenges, cerebral palsy, fetal alcohol and drug syndrome are not accepted well. For many years these children did not make it to adulthood. Children such as these would be killed at birth or hidden away for years. There was shame in having a child with such disabilities. In recent years things have been changing.
There are homes and day care facilities that are becoming available for these children and adults. Many needs are met but there just are not enough volunteers! Volunteers are needed so that many more DD children and adults can attend day care centers in and around Nairobi.
