Winston-Salem, NC – Habitat for Humanity of Forsyth County has received a grant from Thrivent Financial for Lutherans of Minneapolis, Minn.
The grant will provide $59,772, or 55 percent of the amount of constructing a Habitat home for a local family. An additional 10 percent will be raised by Thrivent’s Yadkin River Chapter and area Lutheran congregations; the remaining 35 percent, or $38,037, will be contributed by Habitat Forsyth.
Local chapter and Lutheran church members will also supply much of the volunteer labor to build the home in spring 2012.
The local grant is part of Thrivent Financial’s partnership with Habitat for Humanity International. Thrivent’s 2012 commitment will fund the construction and rehabilitation of 142 homes in 32 states. In the last seven years, Thrivent has committed more than $160 million to Habitat affiliates nationwide.
The 2012 house will be Thrivent’s third for Habitat Forsyth; two houses were previously funded in 2008 and 2010.
Thrivent Builds with Habitat for Humanity is a multi-year, multi-million dollar partnership between Thrivent Financial for Lutherans and Habitat for Humanity International. Thrivent Builds is designed to involve Thrivent members and Lutherans in helping provide a “hand up” to people in need of affordable housing, offering them a path to greater economic independence. Excluding government funding, Thrivent Builds with Habitat for Humanity is Habitat's largest single source of funding, constructing more than 2,700 homes in the U.S. and around the world since 2005.
