6th Annual ReStore Spaces - Recap

Design Challenge for Habitat - Huge Success

On Friday, November 4th the Winston-Salem Regional Association of REALTORS® held the Sixth Annual Liberty Hardware ReStore Spaces event.  This gala event was a fundraiser to benefit Habitat for Humanity and to increase the awareness of the Habitat ReStore.

Over 400 people attended ReStore Spaces.  Local designers created rooms using ReStore items they repurposed.  The Judge’s Choice Award went to Kristen Absher & Melissa Ward of IDEAS-Interior Design & Art Studio. Guests of the event could vote with their money for their favorite room and the People’s Choice Award went to the design team of Abigail Eaton, Christine DiBianca, Laura Niece and Lauren DiBianca Frye. Their room raised $1,185.  The award for the most creative use of Liberty Hardware products went to Instructor Rosa Otero, Ph.D., IDEC and her students from Salem College for the third year in a row. There was a new award given this year to a student from Forsyth Tech or Salem College who excelled in their design project.  Ingrid Simmons of the Forsyth Tech Interior Design Program took home the 2011 ReStore Spaces Student Award.

Before the event took place this year the public, friends and family of the designers, local real estate firms and 8 Habitat for Humanity families raised $9,310. This “voting” challenge all took place online and Prudential Carolinas Realty, The design team of Abigail Eaton, Christine DiBianca, Laura Niece and Lauren DiBianca Frye and the Foster Family were crowned the Community Choice Award.

“We were quite pleased with the creativity shown by all the designers at ReStore Spaces and congratulate the winners.  We think it shows all the wonderful things that can be done with items from the ReStore and also the value of re-using furniture and other goods.  We appreciate all the effort that the REALTORS put into making this a really fun event and look forward to it next year” said Sylvia Oberle, Executive Director of Habitat for Humanity of Forsyth.  To add to the excitement, a 1 carat gold and diamond bracelet donated by Maxwell Jewelers was raffled off the night of the event.

“The ReStore Spaces event was a huge success and plans are already under way for next year” said Heather Miller, Marketing Director for the Winston-Salem Regional Association of REALTORS®.   “Many local restaurants, sponsors, REALTORS and Habitat supporters made this night possible.  We were able to raise over $24,000 for Habitat for Humanity of Forsyth this year”, said Miller.
