When looking for flight deals to Italy try to remember
You don't have to think of the trip in terms of its entirety, try breaking up the trip into segments and making the most of your miles.
For example - if you live on the west cost and don't have enough miles for international travel, but do for a domestic ticket, try flying from LAX to either Chicago, New York, Boston, or even Atlanta using miles and then book your ticket to Florence with a paying ticket, this could save you up to $500 on the total cost of a ticket when booking from LAX to CDG.
Also, some airlines will allow you to book one way using miles and the other paying, this can cut the cost of a ticket in half!
American Airlines has international flights starting at just 60,000 miles round trip!
If you are planning to extend your travel after the event, its also a good idea to breakup your flight segments and book your European flight using a local European carrier separate from your US flights.
