Spirit in the Arts (SITA) is our free, self-directed arts studio as well as a hub for facilitated groups that bring the inner life and ‘sacred story’ of a person or organization into view. The open studio (click for hours) is our primary neighborhood mission although it draws people of all walks of life from across Sacramento. It is a place where individuals come to express themselv es through creativity and community without fear of censure. We provide a safe, welcoming place, companionship and materials at no cost.
Facilitated personal explorations through art open the door to more intentional journeying. We consider creative expression to be spiritual practice giving access to the treasure inside each person or group. We currently offer Inside Out: Inner Vision, Outer Life a facilitated drop in group introducing a different process and theme each week for a sliding scale fee of $5-$20/session, payable in class. Teaching artists offer other fee-based classes. See current calendar for Bread of Life workshops. To register for classes or workshops click here. We also have a public gallery open during business hours to displa y works of local artists.
What If I'm Not An Artist?
Everyone is creative in their own unique way, no matter their skill or ability. We believe that heartfelt creative expression is a wonderful way to access spiritual connections, learn about ourselves, build bridges through community and make strides in healing life's wounds.
All are welcome: those from specific religious traditions and those who question anything spiritual; those who are familiar with artistic techniques and those who have never before accessed their creativity; those who long to explore their inner territory and those who simply want to relax.
Visit our art rooms, upstairs and down. Sit and converse with people you might not otherwise meet. Hold silence in the quiet art room if you need time away. Play with art materials that may challenge you or delight you. Allow yourself the time and space to consciously explore your inner spirit, in whatever form t hat may take. When people are engaged in self-expression in a community setting something happens that is greater than the individuals themselves.
Our doors are open. Come join us!
Spirit in the Arts is funded in part by the Cultural Arts Award and Microgrant Program of the Sacramento Metropolitan Arts Commission with support from the City and County of Sacramento.
