The Bishop Masereka Christian Foundation (BMCF) is a
collaboration of Ugandans and U.S. supporters to support development and
self-sufficiency through health care for women and infants and education for
children. Focused on Kasese and the Rwenzori district of southwestern Uganda,
BMCF is a model of an effective grassroots organization with local leaders and
highly trained employees serving their community, working closely with
advisers, volunteers, and donors in the U.S.
As a locally-led organization, BMCF represents the single
most effective way to empower a community in a region severely impacted by
conflict, disease, and extreme poverty. BMCF is a faith-based organization, in
accordance with the deeply held beliefs of the Ugandan people, and is founded
on the core value of care and respect for every person. BMCF rejects
intolerance and discrimination toward any individual for any reason.
The North American board, sponsors, and donors represent a
range of expertise and commitments from medical professionals to parishioners. For
these supporters BMCF represents their opportunity to take an active role in
the global mission of the U.N. Millennium Goals to end poverty by 2015 [link: www.endpoverty2015.org].
